Borries,

I as well as our product manager agree, it likely a glue failure. Guidance
from tech support is to try and use a small amount of super glue to secure
them back into the correct position. This isn’t something which we have
seen. Please use caution as to not use too much glue as it could impact
the other components and their fit. FYI- 305552 is the part number for the
two-sector external fill cell housing.

Thanks,

Nick

Nick, can you please let me know how I am going to get the keys re-glued
into the housings? They are not consumables. They should last forever - I
have housings that are 30+ years old from the Model-E and they still have
their keys properly

Nick,

can you please let me know how I am going to get the keys re-glued into the
housings? They are not consumables. They should last forever - I have
housings that are 30+ years old from the Model-E and they still have their
keys properly locked in place and do not leak. This is a glue failure.
There is nothing that wears out on the housings if they are properly
handled. I suspect this is a batch issue, since they all have the same
number stamped below the fill holes (305552).

Thanks, -Borries

Borries,

Yes, I have been following all of email communications. I want to thank
you for all the extra effort you and your team has put into this sample
analysis- time, resources, and knowledge of the limitations of DLS!!

I have reached out to our product manager regarding the cell housings. I
have not heard anything back yet. While the cell housing and components
are ‘consumables’, they are certainly more like hardware than a traditional
tube or bottle. That said, I am sure they have a certain life
expectancy/warranty and retirement age. Given they are several years old,
my initial guess is that they are out of the warranty period, but more to
come and I will pass on all information I receive.

I had heard Whitney is out on medical leave, but I do not know anything
more than that. I second your feelings and hope it is something minor.

Best Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,

We proceeded with the experiment with Liu, in order to get closer to a
point where he realizes the value of AUC. Right now, he uses DLS, which
really misleads him in terms of the quantity of the larger species he is
looking for. He doesn't quite seem to understand that the DLS completely
misrepresents the composition, because the scaling is proportional to the
6th power of particle size (!), when it should be to first power of mass.

So, he can't even see that there are 99% monomers in the solution, he
cannot see the monomers at all!

We were able to detect a tiny amount of larger species in the mixture he
sent, but it is not enough to get a good enough signal to measure molar
mass. Right now I am trying to get more concentration for the big stuff by
following his recommendation to incubate the sample at 45C for several
days. So, will see. Not sure if he will realize the value of an Optima AUC
if the amount he tries to measure is nearly undetectable.

Another question: Did you by any chance make any progress with my question
about the cell housings?

Also, do you know why Whitney is on medical leave, and when she is expected
back? I hope it is nothing serious.

Thanks, -Borries
