We have not been able to identify the problem, but have noticed some unusual usage patterns. In particular, Haben and Reece have an inordinate large number of ssh login sessions active. There is no reason for that. You need one session for the VNC tunnel, that's all. I have a feeling you guys start new ones from Windows without ctrl-C'ing the old ones first, and they just stack up. To check if this is related, I want both of you to log into uslims.uleth.ca and save all your work, and then let me know, so I can kill all of these sessions and see if this resolves the problem. Worst case, we will need to reboot the server and check the IDRAC for issues with the RAID. Please let me know when you have saved your work so I can reset your account. Emre, Saeed and I investigated and could not determine the error, despite restarting every service (including the nvidia services), and stopping all user accounts. Rebooting finally solved the slowdown, but we still don't know what caused it in the first place. Please keep in mind that you will need to restart your VNC server before using the GUI. UltraScan HPC jobs should be running at normal speed now again, and database queries should be fast again. If you notice any persistent slowdown agan, please notify us immediately, perhaps we can figure it out the next time it happens. Also, if you run nVidia GPU jobs, please check the system responsiveness right after starting a cryosparc run or whatever job you are running to see if it slowed down.
